Secure your Google Account with 2FA
What is two-factor authentication(2FA)?
Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a security feature that uses a layer of protection for your account beyond a username and password. An account protected by 2FA checks for something you have and something you know before granting access.
A password is something you know that protects your account. 2FA protection checks for something you have--like a smartphone, physical security key, or printed backup code.
Why use 2FA?
Passwords alone are not enough to protect your online accounts. If your password is exposed then an attacker can access your account. Passwords can be exposed through a data breach, phishing attack, or accidental disclosure. In the event your password is exposed, then 2FA provides an additional layer of protection to your account.
What methods can I use for 2FA on my Google Account?
The following methods are available as a second authentication factor on WSFCS Google accounts:
Code from an authenticator app. Use an authenticator app on your smartphone or tablet to get verification codes.
Voice or text message. Get a verification code by phone call or text message.
Google prompts. Sign into your Google account on your smart phone. Google will send a notification to every phone you are signed into. You will tap the notification to confirm your login.
Security key. Use a compatible hardware security key or hardware token. After entering your username and password, connect the security key to your device's USB port or NFC radio. They are similar to a USB thumb drive or key fob like the YubiKey by Yubico.
Printed backup code. In addition to one of the above methods, you can print a set of one-time numeric backup codes in case your primary 2FA device is unavailable.
